Sorry to Bother You
Rapper, Boots Riley makes his filmmaking debut with an off-kilter comedy set in his hometown of Oakland, California. Lakieth Stanfield stars as a telemarketer who finds success at work when he adopts a white-sounding voice. He quickly catches the eye of his cocaine-snorting, orgy-throwing boss, played by none other than Armie Hammer (in a role he sounds born to play). Sorry to Bother You arrives at Sundance with the approval of McSweeney’s, which published the screenplay last year, an original score by Tune-Yards, a producer from “Dope” and “Fruitvale Station,” and a supporting cast that includes Tessa Thompson and Steven Yeun.
