Editor’s Note

Make the right effort.

2022 has pulled no punches since it began three weeks ago. This month felt much like sliding down a water slide at full speed. It’s fast, sort of fun, and absolutely terrifying at the same time.

The COVID-19 omicron variant came through knocking down the buildings like Snoop, beloved artists moving on to the next plane (RIP Betty White, Sidney Poitier, Bob Saget, and James Mtume), and all the while, I’m trying to make 2022 the most promising year of my life.

As I look at all my plans for the year, I want to be cognizant of putting forth the right effort as I strive to achieve all the lofty goals I’ve set out for myself. Please note I didn’t say the right amount of effort; I mean the right effort

What is the right effort

The right effort is the productive activity, flow, and harmonious passion associated with sustainable peak performance, well-being, and overall life satisfaction.

The right effort is not striving for external factors such as wealth and clout. The right effort is moving towards what makes you feel spiritually complete. The right effort will hold your internal resistance at bay while completing your tasks. The right effort looks like concentrated focus instead of multitasking. The right effort feels like rhythmic shifts from one phase of life to another. The right effort is striving with presence.

I love this issue because each featured artist is an example of creatives who put forth the right effort to make their dreams come true. They are striving to meet their goals with integrity.

Mindful momentum is one of my themes for this year. I want to strive to the next level with flow and ease. I want to execute everything I do with thought and care.
